St Finian’s students win national awards in Applied Technology
St Finian’s College, Mullingar, is proud to announce an extraordinary national achievement by three of its students, Beibhinn Nic Gabhann, John Tully, and Michael Fry, who have placed in the top 10 in Ireland for their overall grade in Applied Technology in the Junior Cycle examinations. Each student received a Distinction for their exceptional performance in this highly competitive subject, which combines a rigorous written examination with a demanding skills-based project. This recognition places them among the best students in the country.
The award ceremony, organised by the Engineering Technology Teachers Association (ETTA) in partnership with the State Exam Commission and the Department of Education, took place on Saturday November 22, at the Raheen Wood Hotel in Athenry, Galway. A national-level event, it celebrates Ireland’s top achievers in engineering and technology, highlighting their talent, innovation, and dedication.
St Finian’s College achieved a milestone, placing joint first in Ireland for having the largest number of students from one school receive this national award – testament to the school’s commitment to excellence in technology education and its role in nurturing the next generation of innovators.
A special mention goes to Beibhinn Nic Gabhann, whose outstanding achievement earned her the Distinction and also highlighted the vital role of female students in engineering and technology. Beibhinn is an inspiration to all students, demonstrating that skill, determination, and leadership know no gender boundaries.
This success would not have been possible without the guidance of teachers, Kevin Coleman, who taught two of the students in the same class, Sean Murphy, and Billy Higgins, whose expertise and mentorship were integral to their success. Their commitment ensures that St Finian’s College continues to foster a culture of excellence and innovation in Ireland.
“We congratulate Beibhinn, John, and Michael on their outstanding national achievements. St Finian’s College is proud to see its students excel on this prestigious stage, setting a standard of excellence and inspiration for students across the country,” said principal, John McHale.
