Wreath making workshop to support Mullingar Lions Club Christmas Programme.
On behalf of Mullingar Lions Club, Frank Dillon expressed a huge thank-you to “the wonderful team from Mullingar Harriers”, who, for the third year in row, organised a fundraising Christmas Wreath Workshop.
The Harriers team are Terry Greene, Trish Broderick, Nuala Moran, Michelle Kavanagh, Brigid McCabe, Mary Carr, Vera McCool, Pauline Troy, Olivia Cronin, Joanna Tyrell and Caroline Mullin, and their efforts realised €2,230.
Their work in bringing the community together on November 30 to benefit from their skillset and creativity is “truly commendable”, said Frank, who took the opportunity to thank the Mullingar Harriers club members and friends for their generous support and to congratulate them on their 50th anniversary, wishing them continued success in the years ahead.
This year’s Mullingar Lions Club Christmas Appeal is on Friday and Saturday next, December 12 and 13 December at Hughes Eurospar, Green Road and Buckley’s SuperValu, Austin Friar Street.
Lions Club members will be at the supermarkets with collection boxes and people can also donate by card. The Christmas appeal dates back to the 1980s, and clubs throughout the country collect provisions and funds for the needy.
Mullingar Lions Club work closely with St Vincent de Paul on the Christmas Appeal to ensure everyone is taken care of.
Frank said that this year the needs are particularly acute due to the rise in the cost of living. Food vouchers allow people to shop and buy what they most need.
In addition to the food appeal, the Lions Club provide dinners on Christmas Day and St Stephen’s Day. Last year 340 dinners were delivered throughout Westmeath, which is made possible by the generosity and commitment of David Symth Catering.
Mullingar Lions Club take this opportunity to once again express heartfelt thanks and appreciation to all for their generous support and goodwill. Wishing everyone a peaceful and happy Christmas.
