Carrs clinch semi final spot in Ireland’s Fittest Family

Westmeath's Carr family continue their Ireland's Fittest Family adventure following a thrilling semi final at Hell and Back in Kilruddery, County Wicklow.

Coach Anna Geary guided the Carr family past the elimination showdown with Ellen Keane's Stuart family from Dublin after Davy Fitzgerald assisted the McDonagh family from Mayo to an automatic semifinal slot.

The three families and coaches were battling it out for the last two of the six places left in the semi-finals at Drogheda Port.

The families raced each other in Battle Of The Bog where two members of each family had to battle against the other families through the sticky course, before releasing the other two family members to do the same.

Next they took on a new time trial – Monkey Madness – an obstacle course that culminates in a series of punishing monkey bars.

The Cars were in first place after the first round, however a stumble in the second obstacle course saw them lose valuable seconds. The other families had a better aggregate time, and the elimination match meant they went into the final showdown exhauster.

In the elimination showdown with the Stuart family the Carrs fell behind early. The Dublin family built up a commanding lead on the wall, but a thrilling finish saw the Carrs work very well as a team to see things out on the final obstacle.

Father Tommy was elated as the rest of the family hoisted him to the finish. The family will now be preparing for the semi finals, the first of which will take place next Sunday December 14.
