Mullingar Town Park awarded 2025 Green Flag

Westmeath County Council have announced this morning that Mullingar Town Park has been awarded the 2025 Green Flag, an international mark of excellence that recognises high-quality, well-managed, and environmentally sustainable public parks and green spaces.

The award was presented at a ceremony held at Maynooth University Campus, County Kildare.

Robbie Ryan, executive engineer, and Aidan Gilhooley, general services supervisor, Mullingar Kinnegad Municipal District, accepted the Green Flag on behalf of Westmeath County Council.

In Ireland, An Taisce is the national operator, and has delivered the Green Flag Award since 2016.

The Green Flag Award scheme aims to encourage the provision of good quality public parks and green spaces that are managed in environmentally sustainable ways. It is a non-profit international accreditation programme that recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces.

The Green Flag Award is managed by the UK environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy, under license from the UK Government and delivered in partnership through a network of national operators around the world. The international Green Flag Award was awarded to 128 Irish parks, gardens, greenways and wildlife sanctuaries, an increase of eight awards since last year.

Cllr Mick Dollard, mayor of the Municipal District of Mullingar Kinnegad, stated: “I wish to extend my warmest congratulations to everyone involved in securing the Green Flag for Mullingar Town Park once again. This award is a testament to the outstanding commitment of our council, and the community who take great pride in this much-loved public space.

“Mullingar Town Park continues to serve as a vibrant, welcoming, and sustainable green heart for our district. I commend Robbie Ryan, Aidan Gilhooley, and all those whose work ensures the park remains a place that residents and visitors can enjoy year-round.”
