Teens plead guilty to discharging firearm into front door of Mullingar house

Two teenagers have entered guilty pleas to the discharge of a firearm and criminal damage to the front door of a residential home in Mullingar in July.

The teenage boys, who cannot be named due to their age, appeared before Judge Kenneth Connolly at Mullingar Circuit Court, where the guilty pleas were entered.

The first of the boys, aged 16, pleaded guilty to the reckless discharge of a firearm into the front door of the house on July 14, 2025, and to criminal damage to the same front door. His co-accused, also aged 16, pleaded guilty to criminal damage to the front door of the property.

Andrea Callan, BL, for the first accused, told the court her client was engaging with the probation service and that a number of reports were due before the District Court. For the other accused, John Hayden, SC requested a probation report be directed ahead of sentence.

Judge Connolly agreed to direct a probation report in the case of both teens and said “given they are young people, I would prefer to move it along”.

Longford District Court previously heard how CCTV footage from the injured party’s house showed the two teens walking towards the house, one assembling an improvised shotgun, known as a “slammer”.

The second male was seen behind him and appeared to be filming the incident. There was a loud bang, which sent pellets through the wood of the front door, before both culprits ran away.

Both accused were remanded on continuing bail to January 20, 2026.
