Repairs and ramps planned for Ballinderry and Chestnut Grove
Footpath repairs in Chestnut Grove and new speed ramps in Ballinderry are to be carried out by the Municipal District of Mullingar Kinnegad, councillors were told at the November meeting.
Responding to a motion from Cllr Andrew Duncan, officials confirmed that minor repairs will take place on sections of the Chestnut Grove footpaths which are currently in poor condition, with further works to be considered under the 2026 estimates.
Cllr Duncan said there were “very significant issues” in the estate and urged that some works be done before year’s end.
“If some repairs could be carried out before the end of the year, it would certainly be very helpful,” he said.
District engineer Pat Kavanagh gave a commitment to try to meet that target.
Cllr Duncan also proposed that speed ramps be installed in Ballinderry, citing safety concerns for residents.
Mr Kavanagh confirmed that two ramps are planned for December 2025—one near Lynnderry Court and another close to the roundabout.
Cllr Duncan asked if a third ramp could be considered further up the Ballinderry Road, towards Sacred Heart or Belvedere Hills, depending on available funding.
“We’ll see how we work out for funding, how we’re getting on towards the end of the year,” Mr Kavanagh replied.
Cllr Julie McCourt also raised the issue of faded road markings near the roundabout closest to the dog track, saying they are now badly degraded and need attention.
