Duncan told of Springfield and Columb Barracks progress
Action is to be taken to address a large and dangerous derelict site at Springfield, the Municipal District of Mullingar Kinnegad has confirmed in response to a query raised at the November meeting by Cllr Andrew Duncan.
The official written response stated that a detailed site inspection has been carried out, and the matter is now being pursued under the Derelict Sites Act, 1990.
Cllr Duncan welcomed the response but called for a clear timeline. “I respect the answer, but I’d like to see a timeframe as to when that is actually going to be tidied up before somebody is injured,” he said. Director of Services Deirdre Reilly undertook to provide a timeline for the works.

Meanwhile, Cllr Duncan was informed at the same meeting that progress is also being made on the Columb Barracks Committee, which was established at the June council meeting.
The response to Cllr Duncan’s request for an update was that the committee, comprising elected members from the Mullingar Kinnegad Municipal District, had its terms of reference approved at the September meeting of the county council, and is set to meet on a quarterly basis.
The first meeting is scheduled to be organised within the next month, Cllr Duncan was informed.
