Advice for energy bills
Domestic energy customers who are in arrears with their bills can ensure their power is not cut off, if they engage with their suppliers. The Electricity Association of Ireland has issued a reminder of the Energy Engage Code, a voluntary commitment that sets out how suppliers will help and support customers to manage their energy bills (electricity and gas).
A principle underpinning the code is a firm commitment by suppliers that they will never disconnect an engaging customer. The suppliers signed up are: Bord Gáis Energy, Electric Ireland, Energia, Flogas, Pinergy, Prepay Power, SSE Airtricity and Yuno Energy.
Under the code, suppliers promise to: help, no matter the customer’s circumstances, as long as they actively engage with the supplier; explain all options available; provide guidance and support on how to manage bills, and information on energy efficient measures to customers not in arrears but concerned about bills; to provide info about other agencies who can also support the customer; and if the customer engages genuinely, not to disconnect them.
