The crowd at Gaffney’s ready to enjoy the night.

Bits N’ Pieces 2 helps future of Delvin Valley Drama Group

Bits N’ Pieces 2 took to the stage on Saturday and Sunday, December 6 and 7 at Gaffney’s Drama Lounge in Delvin.

The show was a collection of original sketches and collections of pieces written by local writers and talents, many from the Delvin Valley Drama Group.

The first show was in 2024, called Bits N’ Pieces, was to raise funds to produce “What’s in the Air” by Mick Roban, a comedy mixed with some music throughout, which was an amazing success in April 2024, with more than 400 people enjoying the show over the two nights. This year’s show, called Bits N’ Pieces 2, was also put together to raise funds for a future production, which is Brian Friel’s ‘Dancing at Lughnasa’, directed by Patricia Ronayne at St Patrick’s Hall in Delvin in April 2026.

Mick Roban, one of the Bits N’ Pieces 2 organisers, cast and writer, had told the Westmeath Examiner: “Bits N’ Pieces 2 is a collection of funny, original writing and some very serious throughout the show with thought-provoking pieces to balance out the show.

“Bits N’ Pieces 2 had a collection of many works. I’m fortunate enough to have four pieces in the show, a wonderful girl called Lindsay Delaney wrote an amazing piece three weeks ago, and it was just too good not to put it in this show. We also have a piece called Get Some Therapy and it’s written by someone in America, but we cannot find who wrote it,” said Mick Roban.

More than 80 people enjoyed the show over the two nights, with music played at the end of each night that the audience would sing along to, which created an amazing atmosphere. “It’s a community-based thing,” said Mick.

The group at the moment are primarily adults, and they are searching for all ages to get involved: “We want younger members, as they can play younger roles, as at the moment we can only cast certain plays with the age demographic, we would welcome younger people, and we can learn so much from them,” said Mick.

The two nights left audiences thrilled and laughing, the night also featured a raffle which was to help raise money alongside the ticket sales of the two nights, Mick concluded: “The cast are phenomenal people, not just as actors, but as people. We have a fun throughout, and everyone works very hard”.
