High uptake under Broadband Plan

According to National Broadband Ireland, Mullingar is among the highest in Ireland for broadband take-up through the National Broadband Plan.

The rollout in the Mullingar area includes the town, Portloman, and Enniscoffey.

Take-up rates are nearing 60%, contributing to Mullingar being one of the best take ups in Ireland.

In the rest of the county, there are plans to deliver 500 megabit speed to homes, businesses, and schools, and Westmeath is due to receive €46m under the National Broadband Plan.

The CEO of National Broadband Ireland, TJ Malone, said: “We are delighted to see such a strong demand for fibre broadband in the Mullingar area.

“That reflects a growing appetite for fast, reliable connectivity as more people experience the benefit of fibre broadband in their daily lives.

“Overall, almost 12,000 homes, businesses, and farms in Westmeath can now order a high-speed fibre connection to the NBI network.

“That includes the rural surrounds of Delvin and Lismacaffrey.

“We are encouraging Westmeath residents to visit the NBI website to check their Eircode and sign up for updates.”
