CONGRATULATIONS
A big congratulations to Crookedwood and Westmeath underage star, Hazel Loughrey, who was awarded her certificate for completion of the Camogie Associations ‘MNÁ’ programme. The aim of MNA was to increase female involvement in camogie in the form of coaching, mentoring, and participation all the way down to grassroots level. Well done to Hazel on receiving her certificate in Croke Park recently from Uachtarán Cumann Camógaíochta, Brian Molloy.
SOCIAL MEDIA
Westmeath Camogie has decided to join in the world of TikTok! While we don’t envisage rivalling the likes of local stars Conor Sketches (Conor Moore) or The Irish Gem (Gemma Leahy), hopefully there will be a few fun videos through 2026. Find us on TikTok now @westmeath.camogie

DINNER DANCE
Congratulations to Clonkill Camogie who celebrated their Matrix Cup 2025 victory at their dinner dance last weekend. Well done to all in the Loughegar club.
THANK YOU
2025 saw the end of the time of our chairperson, Karen Goldrick (Ringtown), vice-chairperson, Caroline Carton (St Oliver Plunkett’s), treasurer, Mary Glynn (St Munnas), and Development Officer, Ryan Jones (Crookedwood), from the Westmeath Camogie Executive. Everyone in Westmeath Camogie and beyond would like to thank Karen, Caroline, Ryan, and Mary for the time and effort they gave to the county in various ways over the past years – some may still be involved in other positions in the future! Their endeavours have helped to promote, progress, and develop Westmeath Camogie both on and off the field of play. Various positions on the new Executive are currently in the process of being filled.
ON THE FIELD
Westmeath Camogie is back for 2026! Our Intermediate side will take to the field in Leinster, Division 2A in the league, and in the Intermediate Championship in the coming months under the new leadership of Crookedwood’s Barry O’Mara (Bainisteoir). Jemma Maybury (Castlepollard), Ryan O’Neill (former Killucan LGFA and Down minor camogie) and Tony O’Keeffe (Southern Gaels) will be alongside Barry as coaches/selectors. Fearghal Kiernan (Peak Performance) will work as S&C coach while Jennifer Cole and Patsy Sheerin will be the medical team. Our county U23 side will, once again, be coached by Paddy Maloney (St Munnas). Caroline Carton, Eileen Loftus, and Stephen Conway form the backroom with Andrea Glynn (physio) and Kirsty Fivey (FLO) also involved. The Minor side will be led by Jimbob Baker (Cullion) and Denise Muldoon (Clonkill) while the U16’s will have Brownstown’s George Beggan, Clonkill’s Martin Egerton and Becca Croash, and Cullion star, Fiona Keating (S&C) in their corner for the coming season.
WESTMEATH VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR 2025
It is with great privilege and honour that Westmeath Camogie announces that the winner of the Westmeath Camogie Volunteer of the Year 2025 is none other than the iconic Bridget Leavy of St Munna's. Bridget, or Biddy is she more commonly known to people near and far, has served in many roles in her club in recent years - from secretary to treasurer, underage coach to the current chairperson, and even the small matter of being involved in the management of the side which made the Senior B final this year. In 2023, Biddy was the goalkeeper on the Munnas team which won the All-Ireland Junior B title on December 16th so it's fair to say there are few (if any!) positions in her club she has not been involved in in some way. Congratulations Biddy! Fully deserved. The award will be presented to Bridget in Croke Park in February.
PRE SEASON
Congrats to our U16 side who had a fine outing – and victory – over Kildare on December 28th last. The girls went to Kerdiffstown Park outside of Naas where four goals were enough to see them overcome the Lilywhites.
Thanks to Kildare Camogie for their hospitality, facilities, and for the game too. We look forward to seeing them again at various grades this year.
