Another great GOAL Mile at Mullingar Shamrocks
The 21st edition of the GOAL Mile was held on this Christmas morning and was one of the most successful yet. Staged in perfect weather conditions, Goal representative Brian Fagan reported "a superb attendance" who supported a most worthy cause.
Participants from eight to eighty-plus, and several well dressed dogs, clocked up the mile and worked up an appetite for the Christmas dinner, as well as contributing to what is a great cause.
The majority of the 21 Mullingar GOAL Miles have been staged in the Mullingar Shamrocks complex in Springfield.
GOAL Mile, the flagship annual fundraiser for Irish humanitarian aid charity GOAL, has been running for over four decades and has grown to become one of Ireland’s most beloved festive traditions, with the event helping to raise critical funds for GOAL’s life-saving humanitarian work around the world for vulnerable communities affected by relentless conflict, the devastating effects of climate change and resulting mass displacement.
For over 45 years, GOAL has been at the forefront of responding to worldwide humanitarian crises, working with vulnerable communities in more than 60 countries.
In Gaza, conflict has decimated local infrastructure, leaving Palestinian families completely reliant on humanitarian aid to survive. Responding to the crisis, GOAL is working with a local partner in Gaza to provide lifesaving food and medical care to families in need.
It is expected that the €750K raised for GOAL’s programmes the previous year will be surpassed.
"It’s a brilliant tradition, where communities lace up and move for something much bigger than us,”said GOAL Ambassador Bernard Jackman.
