Man to stand trial over alleged violent assault at fast food takeaway in Mullingar

A man in his early 20s is to go on trial next week accused of an alleged violent attack at a food takeaway in Mullingar 18 months ago.

Michael Curley (21) with an address at 16 The Crescent, Lakepoint, Delvin Road, Mullingar, Westmeath appeared at last Thursday’s sitting of Mullingar District Court charged with assault causing harm to another man at Mr Chef, Oliver Plunkett Street, Mullingar, Westmeath on August 5, 2024.

Garda Enda Reddan gave evidence of having served a book of evidence on Mr Curley at 10.37am and ahead of his appearance before Judge Bernadette Owens.

Sgt Orla Keenan, on behalf of the state, said the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) had consented for the accused to returned for trial to the next sittings of Mullingar Circuit Criminal Court, later this month.

Adam Dodd, defence solicitor for Mr Curley, applied for and was granted legal aid along with one counsel.

Judge Owens advised Mr Curley of the necessity to notify the state within 14 days of any alibi evidence he wished to rely on in his trial.

Following that direction, Mr Curley was remanded on continuing bail to appear before Mullingar Circuit Criminal Court on January 22.
