Funding to be agreed on traffic calming measures for Killucan
Westmeath County Council will oversee two road safety measures to address issues close to schools in the east of the county.
Cllr David Jones asked if the Municipal District of Mullingar Kinnegad would provide members with an update on intended traffic calming measures for Killucan and Rathwire.
The executive said funding is due to be agreed in February or March from the National Transport Authority for the funding of two schemes; the Safe Route to School Scheme for Columba College and St Joseph’s, Killucan.
They replied: “The Municipal District of Mullingar Kinnegad is also examining a planning application for Columba College in Killucan whereby road safety measures will also be considered as part of the planning report.”
The district said they have installed safety measures on the Killucan to Mullingar junction and a further ramp will be installed on the Killucan road.
In a further question, Cllr Jones asked if the MKMD could use council funds to purchase lands needed to complete the footpath to Lough Lene in Collinstown. In their reply, the executive said they are currently liaising with the land owner regarding lands close to Lough Lene for the walking trail.
