Fore Distillery application for extension to premises

An innovative business in one of the most historic parts of Westmeath has made a pre-validation approach to local authority planners to extend their premises. Fore Distillery Limited with an address at Lakill, Mooretown, Fore, Westmeath have consulted with the Westmeath County Council planning office regarding the application last week.

The proposed development would consist of the construction of a single-storey extension incorporating roof terrace to front and side of existing premises. They hope to amend and alter the elevations and floor plans of existing premises and construct a single-storey detached storage shed. The plans are also for the construction of a single-storey detached structure incorporating sanitary facilities all ancillary and facilitating site works.

Fore Craft Distillery was founded by Oliver Guirke in 2021. Using local recipes inspired by the Benedictine monks of local Fore Abbey, Fore Distillery produces Golden Irish Rum, White Irish Rum and Irish Poitín.

The distillery’s Barrel and Bean Café is a popular addition to the local economy and offers views over Lough Glore.

The local authorities have indicated that they may reach a decision by April 8 next.
