Fuel prices up in February, according to AA survey
AA Ireland’s latest monthly fuel price survey shows a slight increase in petrol and diesel prices during February, reversing some of the reductions seen at the start of the year.
EV charging costs remain unchanged.
Key changes from January to February:
• Diesel: €1.72 per litre on average in February (up from €1.69 in January).
• Petrol: €1.73 per litre on average in February (up from €1.70 in January).
• EV charging: Home and PAYG public charging prices remain unchanged.
An AA Ireland spokesperson said: “Following a modest easing of prices in January, motorists are now seeing a small increase at the pumps in February. While the rises are relatively limited, they will still be felt by drivers who are already contending with higher day-to-day motoring costs. EV charging prices, however, remain stable, providing some certainty for electric vehicle owners.”
AA Ireland note that fuel prices continue to fluctuate in response to movements in global oil markets and currency exchange rates. Pump prices can also vary significantly depending on location and retailer.
“With price differences of several cent per litre still common, shopping around can make a real difference over the course of a month,” the spokesperson added.
“Planning journeys, refuelling in advance rather than at motorway locations, and using fuel price comparison tools can all help motorists manage costs.”
AA Ireland is also reminding drivers that improving fuel efficiency remains one of the most effective ways to reduce overall fuel spend. Simple steps such as maintaining correct tyre pressures, avoiding unnecessary idling, reducing excess weight in the vehicle and adopting smoother driving habits can significantly improve fuel consumption.
Although winter is beginning to ease, AA Ireland continue to see high demand for breakdown assistance during February, and battery issues, tyres and general wear and tear remain common causes.
“Keeping your vehicle well-maintained not only helps prevent breakdowns but can also improve fuel efficiency and reduce running costs,” the AA spokesperson said. “Regular servicing and basic checks can deliver savings while also improving safety on the road.”
Overall, February’s survey highlights a modest increase in fuel prices alongside continued stability in EV charging costs. AA Ireland is encouraging motorists to remain fuel-savvy, maintain their vehicles and adopt efficient driving habits to help offset rising costs.
