Workshop on keeping organic farms compliant to take place at Mullingar Teagasc offices

Teagasc in conjunction with Organic Trust are holding a public workshop on organic inspections and record keeping in the Mullingar Teagasc office (N91 PK10) on Monday 2 March at 4pm.

The aim of the workshop will be to help organic farmers remain compliant with the organic standards and to provide tips around how best to maintain records. Given that the average organic payment nationally is now €11,000, it is especially important that farmers protect it.

The workshop will include a brief overview of the main rules around organics. An Organic Trust inspector will then talk about keeping the farm complaint and the main non-compliances they find while out on farms completing inspections.

There will also be some time given to tips on keeping organic records, and there will be an opportunity for farmers to discuss any issues they may have with the certification body and questions will be welcomed at any stage.

This workshop will provide an opportunity for organic farmers to refresh their knowledge of the organic standards, learn about common penalties, protect their organic payment and will be well worth attending.

Enda O’Hart, Teagasc organic advisor, Westmeath, Roscommon, Longford, Offaly, Cavan, Monaghan, will coordinate the workshop.

Enda O’Hart.
