“These grants are vital in helping people adapt their homes to suit their needs, allowing them to maintain their independence and continue living within their own communities.

“I have met many recipients in Westmeath and have seen the real difference these adaptation works make to people’s day-to-day lives at home.

"The scheme also supports the local economy by providing work for local tradespeople.

“The increased funding nationally will support approximately 17,000 grant approvals in 2026, including many households here in Westmeath.

“I want to commend Westmeath County Council for the important work they do in administering these grants, including assessing applications and carrying out home inspections where adaptations are proposed,” he said.

Minister Robert Troy also gave his thoughts on the allocation saying, “The continued support of these grant schemes are a key Government commitment. I am delighted that the increased level of funding available in 2026 will continue to ensure delivery of these significant grants.

“Housing Adaptation Grants help to support independent living for people in their own homes and can also facilitate an early return from hospitals.

“ I witness first hand regularly how these grants have benefitted many people across the county to remain living independently at home, and to carry out essential upgrades.

“These grants also support local economies, creating employment opportunities for local contractors.”

The Minister concluded his statement by urging households who qualify for the grant, “To look at how they can benefit from this scheme and ensure their home continues to meet their needs.”
