Still time to enter 2026 Westmeath ploughing
Entrants intending to participate in this year’s Westmeath Ploughing Championships have only until midnight tomorrow, Wednesday March 11, to get their entries in.
The championships are taking place on the land of Paddy Rowan and family at Ardballymore, Kilbeggan (N91 KV97) on Sunday March 15 from 12 noon.
Bernie MacCarthy, PRO of the Westmeath Ploughing Association, says that last year proved a highly successful one for Westmeath ploughing competitors: “Three of our representatives did really well at the National Ploughing Championships, coming out of it with All-Ireland titles,” Bernie told the Westmeath Examiner.
The three were Charlie Bourke, Gerard Halpin and Chloe Daly.
“It was a huge achievement for our members and Westmeath Ploughing are hoping to bring a few more All Ireland Ploughing champions back to the Lake County in 2026,” says Bernie.
Among those taking part in the event will be a member of the Oireachtas, Senator Paul Daly.
The match in Kilbeggan starts at 12 midday on Sunday: “It’s always a great day out for competitors and spectators,” says Bernie.
Classes include vintage, horse ploughing, reversible, 3-furrow, farmerette and loy ploughing. “Thanks to our sponsors who kindly support Westmeath Ploughing every year. “We are all looking forward to a great day and wish the best of luck to all competitors,” Bernie concluded.
Anyone intending to enter should contact any of the three following members before midnight tomorrow: Richard Dudley, 086 6080303; Jack Kearney, 083 3001222 or PJ Lynam, on 086 2513787.
