New weekly exercise class for people with Parkinson’s in Westmeath

Parkinson’s Ireland are running a new weekly exercise class for people living with Parkinson’s disease in Westmeath. The class commenced on Friday March 6, and continues on Fridays at 3.45-4.45pm in Seomra Cheoil at Áras an Mhuilinn, Mount Street, Mullingar.

The class is open to anyone affected by Parkinson’s, regardless of age or location in the county. It will cater to a variety of different abilities. It is also a great way to meet other people with Parkinson’s disease locally.

The weekly sessions will be led by Siel Bleu, who deliver evidence‑based and tailored exercise programmes for people with long‑term health conditions. Exercise and physical activity have been proven to be effective in reducing the signs and symptoms of Parkinson’s, as well as reducing the onset of symptoms.

Parkinson’s disease is a neurodegenerative condition, with exercise and physical activity playing a key role in the health management of the condition and its associated symptoms. It is the fastest growing neurological condition and numbers living with it are predicted to double by 2050.
