Ruaile Buaile and Farmer Phil in Ballymahon for the ploughing
The Longford Ploughing Championship committee invite you to celebrate this spring equinox weekend in style at Drinan, Ballymahon, this Sunday, March 22.
They promise an entertaining feast of live music as the lively trad band Ruaile Buaile join local talents Creeva, David Orohoe and Darragh McCabe. Live music is from noon till twilight, and there are also dancing competitions, a trade and machinery exhibition, a dog show, and artisan foods and crafts.
A comic recipe for poke and smoke is the live demo Celebrity Ploughing on Father Phil’s MF 1200, with Eoin Lynch, Eleanor and Finian Farrelly taking turns behind the wheel. Eoin, Eleanor and Finian will also chance some traditional ploughing, with horses and vintage tractors ploughing.
Activities for children includes a mobile pet farm and funfair attractions, and there is free parking on site. O’Haire Concert Coaches will run a shuttle service from Ballymahon.

Westmeath ploughing postponed
Westmeath Ploughing called of their annual ploughing match, which had been due to take place on Sunday, March 15, “due to the poor weather and ground conditions”. The event has been rescheduled for Saturday 28 March.
