Dáil figures show number of serving gardaí in Westmeath
There are a total of 236 members of An Garda Síochána deployed in stations across County Westmeath, according to figures recently released to the Dáil.
The data came to light when Sinn Féin deputy, Matt Carthy, asked Minister for Justice Home Affairs and Migration, Jim O’Callaghan (Fianna Fáil TD for Dublin Bay South) the current number of garda stations in each district and the number of stations that have no garda allocated to them.
Garda statistics for the month ending December 31, 2025 indicate that there were 236 members of An Garda Síochána on duty in County Westmeath at that time.
The figures show that Ballynacargy had one garda, Castlepollard had two and one sergeant, Delvin had nine and one sergeant, Killucan had one, Kinnegad had three, Mullingar had 83 serving gardaí and 12 sergeants, two inspectors and two superintendents (a total of 99), Multyfarnham had one and one sergeant, while Rochfortbridge had two.
The Athlone station had 69 gardaí, 14 sergeants, five inspectors, and one superintendent. Glasson had one, Kilbeggan had three and one sergeant, and Moate had 18 gardaí and three sergeants.
The reply to Deputy Carthy’s query also indicated that nationally there are almost 400 fewer gardaí in roads policing units now than there were 15 years ago.
