Local business generates €16,000 in sales through Mullingar Gift Card
The Mullingar Gift Card now includes more than 100 participating businesses, one of which has generated over €16,000 in sales through it.
The card was launched in March 2025 by Mullingar Chamber, and sales increased by 19% as it builds on the success of the town’s previous paper voucher scheme – which generated €2.5 million for the local economy.
The move to a digital platform has made the scheme more accessible, convenient, and appealing for modern consumers, says James Bourke, president of Mullingar Chamber.
Christmas sales increased by €60,000 compared to the previous year and owners of local firms noted that the digital format made corporate Christmas gifting easier, further driving adoption of the card.
Cardholders are reminded that Mullingar Gift Cards are valid for five years from the date of purchase. A €2.50 monthly fee is deducted from the card balance starting the day after the 12-month anniversary of purchase. Mullingar Chamber is encouraging anyone who has received a Gift Card over the past year to spend it locally before the fees begin, ensuring maximum value.
Mr Bourke said: “We are delighted to see the growth of the Mullingar Gift Card. This is a key project for Mullingar Chamber, as it directly keeps money within the local economy. A key benefit of the programme is that it is commission-free for Mullingar Chamber members, making it an attractive and cost-effective way for businesses to participate. Mullingar Chamber would also like to sincerely thank Westmeath County Council for their continued support in delivering and growing this initiative.”
Mullingar Chamber encourage more businesses and consumers to get involved and continue supporting local.
