Una Leonard with business and LCVP students in Athboy CS.

Past pupil Una is icing on cake for Athboy Community School

By Saoirse Meagher, fifth year

Students and staff at Athboy Community School were delighted to welcome back past pupil Una Leonard, now a successful business woman, who spoke to fifth year LCVP, business, accounting and LCA students about her career and the challenges she has faced.

Una founded and runs ‘2210 Patisserie’, based in Mullingar and Powerscourt Centre, Dublin.

Una is also the author of two best-selling books, ‘Sweet Therapy: The Joy of Baking’ and ‘Good Together: Delicious Recipes for the Moments That Matter. Some of students were lucky enough to receive copies during her visit.

Una explained how the hard work, belief and patience she had for her craft enabled the patisserie to be as successful as it is today.

Una – a role model to all people new to business – spoke to the students about how she started, with no experience of owning a business, and worked hard to build up an enterprise that is thriving today.

The fifth year students enjoyed listening to Una’s story and her experiences, and gained new insights about building and setting up a business, including never giving up no matter how hard it is.

She also took the time to bake along with some third year home economics students and Ms Lynch and Ms McRedmond who were delighted to try out some of Una’s recipes.

The students would like to thank Ms Mooney for setting up the visit and of course Una for taking the time to visit Athboy CS.
