A table quiz in support of Tanzanian Heavenly Homes drew almost 40 tables to the Greville Arms Hotel a few weeks ago.
John McCauley said there was a “huge response”, and as well as generous donations from the many people present on the night, there were more, plus raffle prizes from those unable to attend, but who wanted to support the efforts of the Mullingar volunteers to travel to Tanzania to help elderly people each summer.
John said: “Overall it was very, very good. A lot of people, young people that would have travelled with me last year, the year before, came and helped, and some of the people just coming out this year were there to help.
“So between everything we had a great night and, what can I say, only thanks to the people around for supporting our charity work.”
John showed a 10-minute clip of photographs so people can see where their money goes, and that “got a lovely response after showing the scene where the work was being done for elders – people were very impressed with it.
“So thanks to all for their support. We appreciate it.”
Tanzanian Heavenly Homes has just received a charity number, which means the work they do can avail of official support (see story on page 17 of this edition).
