Men’s seniors

Due to the biblically awful weather on Tuesday March 24, the seniors event was cancelled. We are currently running the round robin phase of the seniors matchplay, the first time we have tried such an event and format. The competition is going well, with almost 70% of all the round robin matches played. Fifteen from the 20 teams are still in with a chance of qualifying for the semi-finals. All matches to be completed by Friday April 10.

Mullingar ladies branch notes - Competition results

Heavy overnight rain rendered the course unplayable on Wednesday March 25, prompting the cancellation of the scheduled Force Recruitment 18-hole competition. Attention now turns to next week, with hopes that brighter weather will prevail for the Dali Hair and Beauty 18-hole three-person team event on Wednesday April 1. Players and organisers alike will be keeping their fingers crossed for a dry spell and a strong turnout.

Please note that all bunkers remain out of play until further notice. Players may take a free drop to the nearest point of relief, no nearer the hole, before continuing play.

Easter competition

The cut-off date for the Easter Competition was March 31. Players must have clearly mark each card “Easter Bunny” and ensure every putt holed is recorded. The best two scores will count toward the final results.

A big thank you goes to Dorothy O’Keeffe and Fiona O'Riordain for their hard work in managing the competition, and special thanks to sponsors Sherrie Buckley and Aoife Hunt for their generous support.

Golf course swap day

On Wednesday May 20, MGC ladies will take part in a course swap with Castleknock Golf and Country Club, with tee times available from 9.30 to 11.30 AM. It’s a great chance to enjoy a superb course for just €5.

Get into golf

The Get into Golf programme teed off on Monday March 30, with an impressive 41 participants taking part. The eight-week series will introduce newcomers to the fundamentals of the game while also giving them valuable on-course experience. Sincere thanks are extended to Bridie Shaw for her excellent coordination, and to PGA Professional Corey Doherty and his team for providing lessons, equipment, and ongoing support throughout the programme.

Members are encouraged to come out, say hello, and help welcome the newest golfers to the club as they begin their journey in the sport.

Clubhouse refurbishment and redecoration project

Refurbishment work in the clubhouse continues to make strong progress. The entrance hallway has now been painted, and work in the Men’s locker room — including the shower area — is well underway. The main phase of construction is expected to be completed within the next two weeks, with carpet installation in the locker room scheduled for April 15.

Carpets for the entrance hallway and the restaurant/bar areas will follow by the end of April. Once finished, these refreshed spaces will offer a more comfortable and welcoming environment for both members and visitors.

Course redevelopment project

This winter has been the wettest in more than 40 years, and despite every effort, the conditions have ultimately proven too difficult to overcome.

As a result, not all 16 scheduled holes will be completed by the early-April target.

DAR Golf will finish for the summer on Friday April 10. Once work on the 5th hole is completed, the team will move on to the 1st hole, leaving holes 4, 6, and 9 to be completed later this autumn.

Subject to weather and ground conditions, it is anticipated that the bunkers will open for play in early May, once the sodding and surrounding areas have bedded in.
