Man held following robberies and arrest in Mullingar

Gardaí arrested a man following two robberies at business premises in Mullingar that occurred on Sunday, April 12.

Gardaí were alerted to a robbery at a business premises on Castle Street at approximately 4.30pm on Sunday afternoon.

During the course of the incident, a male suspect threatened staff with an implement.

No items were taken.

A second report of robbery was received by gardaí a short time later at a business premises on Canal Court.

The male suspect assaulted a member of staff and damaged property on the premises.

A sum of cash was also stolen.

Following enquiries by gardaí on patrol in the area, a man (aged in his 30s) was arrested a short distance away.

He is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a garda station in Westmeath.

The stolen cash was recovered by gardaí.

Investigations are ongoing.
