Mullingar Nominated for Ireland’s Best Kept Towns Competition 2026
Mullingar has been nominated to participate in the Ireland’s Best Kept Towns Competition 2026, following a strong performance in the SuperValu Tidy Towns Competition 2025.
Ireland’s Best Kept Towns Competition is a prestigious all-island initiative, where participation is based on the towns performance in the 2025 SuperValu Tidy Towns Competition.
The nomination of Mullingar is a significant recognition of the collective efforts of residents, businesses, community groups and volunteers.
Adjudication will take place during May 2026, and results are expected in June 2026, subject to confirmation.
Bill Collentine, chairperson of Mullingar Tidy Towns, said: “This nomination is a tremendous honour for Mullingar and a real testament to the pride shown by our residents, businesses and volunteers throughout the town.
“Ireland’s Best Kept Towns is highly competitive, and success depends on everyone working together.
“We encourage the whole community to play their part in presenting Mullingar at its very best ahead of the adjudication visit in May.”
One of the most important elements of the judging process is the presentation of buildings, including shopfronts, signage, business premises, banks, factories, historic and public buildings, as well as statues and monuments.
Local businesses are encouraged to consider improvements where possible. Shopfront Enhancement Grants are available through the Local Enterprise Office, and interested parties can contact: localenterprise@westmeathcoco.ie; 044 933 8945.
Other judging criteria include:
• Tidiness and absence of litter, graAiti, fly-posting and dereliction
• Presentation of residential areas and front gardens
• The appearance of approach roads, streets and public spaces
• Presentation of natural environments such as parks, riverbanks and green areas
Call for Community Support
Mullingar Tidy Towns are appealing to residents, voluntary groups and businesses to support preparations ahead of the adjudication visit.
“Every small effort makes a difference,” Mr Collentine added. “From a fresh coat of paint to keeping footpaths clean and welcoming, we can all help showcase the pride we have in Mullingar.”
