Westmeath man collects €1m prize from ticket bought at Monksland SuperValu store

The National Lottery said the holder of a €1 million ticket purchased at SuperValu in Monksland, Athlone, has come forward to claim his prize.

In a statement, it said the man was from Westmeath and was "over the moon" after taking the top prize in the Daily Million draw held on Monday, March 30.

"I only play the Daily Million game now and again, so I didn't even realise there had been a top prize win that night," the man said.

"It still doesn’t feel real! I have a few plans in mind for the win. Doing up the garden has been on the list for a while, but I know that I will definitely help family out too.

"A bit of travelling would be nice - I'd love to visit Canada and America," he added.

The seven-figure win was the second such jackpot to be won in the Athlone area in the space of less than a week in late March, after a Westmeath syndicate also won €1 million in the Lotto Plus One draw on Wednesday, March 25, with a ticket purchased at the Corrib Oil service station, on Athlone's Ballymahon Road.

Speaking last week about the €1 million win in Monksland, the SuperValu store manager, Tim Dolan, said: "There's a great sense of pride knowing this incredible prize was won right here in our store.

"We've been proudly serving the community here in Monksland for 19 years, supporting locals across Roscommon and Westmeath, and we're hopeful this marks the beginning of many more big wins to come," he added.
