Troy welcomes two new Gardaí allocated to County Westmeath

Mullingar Garda station has been allocated two probationer Gardaí following the graduation of the latest batch of recruits.

The allocation is part of the group of193 new Gardaí attested at a ceremony in the Garda College in Templemore today.

A new class of over 200 trainees will begin training at the Garda College in Templemore next week.

The allocation forms part of a strong Garda recruitment pipeline. Two recruitment campaigns were held in 2025, with over 11,100 people applying to join An Garda Síochána.

Minister of State at the Department of Finance, Robert Troy, said the latest addition will make a real difference for the people of Mullingar and the surrounding areas: “They will strengthen the existing Garda presence in our community and give local Gardaí the resources they need to respond quickly and effectively.”

Minister Troy added that the allocation represents another positive step in delivering safer communities and greater peace of mind for families: “The work of gardaí in Westmeath is vital to keeping people safe, and these new allocation figures will help ensure they are properly supported. Continued investment in Garda resources and personnel is essential so that they can meet the operational demands placed on them and deliver effective policing on the ground.”

The Minister of State at the Department of Finance said the addition reflects a government commitment to law and order: “I also want to acknowledge the work of my colleague, Minister O’Callaghan, for his continued focus on Garda recruitment and strengthening frontline policing across the country.

“Fianna Fáil has consistently prioritised community safety and these allocations reflect our ongoing commitment to supporting An Garda Síochána and delivering practical results for communities.”

Probationer Gardaí are newly attested members of An Garda Síochána who, following graduation from the Garda College, begin a period of operational training while serving in communities across the country. Their deployment is a vital step in reinforcing frontline policing.
