New McDonald’s opens after €3.8 million investment

Family fun day on Saturday, 9 May from 12 noon

McDonald’s has officially opened the doors to its newest Irish restaurant, in Mullingar, after a €3.8 million investment.

Located in Lakepoint Retail Park, the new 415 square metre drive-thru outlet employs 120 people in a range of full- and part-time positions, mid-level and senior management roles.

There are 35 car parking spaces, bicycle parking, an outdoor seating area and a range of EV charging bays, reflecting McDonald’s continued investment in modern, accessible and sustainable restaurant developments.

McDonald’s recently announced plans to open 25 new restaurants in Ireland over the next five years, representing an investment of approximately €150 million.

McDonald’s franchisee Seamus Rawle, who also operates the existing Mullingar restaurant as well as locations in Cavan, Longford and Westmeath, said: “Opening this new restaurant in Mullingar means a lot to us. We’re genuinely delighted to once again be investing in the town and, most importantly, creating new opportunities for people locally.

“Mullingar has always been a fantastic community to be a part of, and this new restaurant is another step in our ongoing commitment to the local area.”

To celebrate the opening, McDonald’s Mullingar will host a family fun day on Saturday, 9 May from 12 noon. Mullingar Town Band will perform live on the day.

As with all McDonald’s restaurants nationwide, 100% of the beef, bacon, milk, water and eggs served in the new Mullingar restaurant will be sourced from Irish suppliers, reinforcing McDonald’s longstanding commitment to supporting Ireland’s farming and agrifood sectors.

McDonald’s contributes €414 million to the Irish economy annually and now operates 97 restaurants across Ireland, all independently owned and operated by 18 Irish franchisees.

Together, McDonald’s and its franchisees employ more than 7,300 people in communities across the country.

The opening of the new Mullingar restaurant marks another important milestone in McDonald’s growth in Ireland, further strengthening its presence in the Midlands while delivering investment, employment and long-term economic benefit to the local community.
