Retired An Post workers to protest at Mullingar Post Office
Members of Post Office Pensioners United (POPU) will gather outside Mullingar Post Office tomorrow to protest against ongoing financial penalties imposed on retired An Post workers.
The action will be replicated across the country and at Leinster House over delays in the payment of pension increases for 20,000 retired workers at An Post.
In 2013, An Post and its unions, led by the Communications Workers’ Union (CWU), agreed a pension accord to restore the pension fund over 10 years. The protestors sayd that goal has been achieved and the fund is back in surplus, however they claim that the accord has been extended indefinitely.
The protestors are calling for an end to the extended pension accord, the restoration of fair pension increases, and respect for legally protected pension rights.
The issue will be examined by the Oireachtas Committee on Arts, Media, Communications, Culture and Sport next week, where POPU, An Post management, and union representatives will present their cases.
