Atrium exhibition of work by Ukrainian artist who fled war in her homeland
A solo exhibition running from this week at The Atrium at the Westmeath County Buildings, features the work of a young Ukrainian artist who moved to this country due to the war in her homeland.
‘The World Through Feelings’ is the title of the exhibition by Kateryna Savka, and the show runs until June 19.
Explaining the theme that runs through her work, Kateryna says it is a story of inner transformation and life far from home.
“Since the beginning of the war, my home has been in occupied territory. Through the experience of losing my home and being separated from my family, my art has gained even deeper meaning, becoming a way to process emotions and find inner strength.”
Continuing, she says she inherited her talent for painting from her father, and declares that art runs through her blood, as does her love for her homeland.
“This exhibition is a journey from memories to new meanings, where every colour is an emotion, and every painting speaks about the possibility of starting again.”
Kateryna says that moving to Ireland opened a new stage in her personal and artistic development: “A new environment, a different energy of the country, its nature and atmosphere helped me rediscover myself and my art.
“For me, art has become a special form of inner therapy and self-expression, a way to experience different states of life, transform emotions into colour, texture, and imagery, and find solace through creativity.”
