New President of Mullingar Municipal District Chamber of Commerce
Suzanne McEvoy has been elected as the new President of Mullingar Municipal District Chamber of Commerce, pledging to champion local businesses and strengthen the voice of members across the district.
Ms McEvoy, a Financial Advisor with Irish Life, was elected following a vote at the Chamber’s Annual General Meeting on May 27 and succeeds outgoing President James Bourke, whom she praised for his “dedication and commitment” during his term in office.
A familiar figure within the Chamber, Ms McEvoy has served on the board for more than four years, most recently as Vice President. She brings almost three decades of experience in banking and finance to the role and recently established her own financial advisory business.
Speaking after her election, she outlined a clear ambition to connect with businesses throughout the district and ensure their concerns are represented at local and national level.
“My job is simple — to be the voice of our members across this district,” she said. “I want to get out and meet them, understand what they need, and ensure their concerns are heard by local councillors, ministers and decision makers.”
Ms McEvoy said she is determined to promote the strengths of Mullingar and the wider district while supporting existing enterprises and encouraging new investment into the area.
“While Mullingar town centre remains at the heart of our Chamber, every member across this district matters equally to us,” she said. “I want to shine a light on who our members are, support local businesses, and harness the strength that exists right here on our doorstep.”
Outside of business life, Ms McEvoy said much of her spare time is spent supporting family activities and attending GAA matches, adding that she is “looking forward to rolling up my sleeves and getting things done”.
The Chamber also confirmed that Aaron Bohan, Plant Manager at Ecolab’s Mullingar facility, has been appointed Vice President. Mr Bohan has served on the Chamber board for the past two years.
Four new board members have also joined the organisation: David Smyth of the Midlands events and hospitality sector; accountant John O’Connell of Stephens Cooke & Associates; psychotherapist and business owner Maura Carey; and Ciáran Gorman, co-founder and CFO of Bevcraft Group.
Looking ahead, Ms McEvoy said plans are already underway for several major Chamber events, including a social evening at Kilbeggan Races, a regional meeting at Tullynally Castle, the annual Budget Breakfast, Chamber Awards and next year’s Careers Expo.
