'My wife is looking for a new kitchen', €250,000 winner tells National Lottery
“She was screaming with excitement – that’s when I knew I definitely wasn’t seeing things!”
That what the Westmeath man who won a Lotto Plus 2 top prize of €250,000 told the National Lottery when he picked up his prize.
The Westmeath man claimed his Lotto Plus 2 top prize of €250,000 from the 6 June draw. His winning Quick Pick ticket was purchased from Tesco in Mullingar.
“I always buy two Lotto tickets, one for my wife and one for myself. It wasn’t long after the draw when I scanned mine on the app, but I thought I must have been seeing things. I asked my wife to check it too and the next thing I knew, she was screaming with excitement. That’s when I knew I definitely wasn’t seeing things!”
The Westmeath winner admitted that he has not had the best sleep since discovering the win, keeping a close eye on the winning ticket after carefully tucking it away in an envelope in a drawer.
“My wife is looking for a new kitchen, so I guess we’ll be hitting the shops very soon. After that, we’re hoping to jet off somewhere sunny later in the year to celebrate properly!”
The National Lottery also confirmed that a Dublin Lotto player has logged on to a midweek surprise after matching five numbers and the bonus in Wednesday night’s Lotto draw to win €34,793. The online player purchased their winning Quick Pick ticket on Tuesday 16 June ahead of the Wednesday night draw.
The numbers in Wednesday night’s (17 June) Lotto draw were: 20, 21, 24, 29, 44, 45 and the Bonus was 28.
National Lottery spokesperson Emma Monaghan said: “What a brilliant midweek surprise for one Dublin player who has scooped €34,793 after matching five numbers and the bonus in Wednesday night’s Lotto draw. As the ticket was purchased online, the winner has already received a notification and an email from the National Lottery, so we’re encouraging our Dublin online players to check their accounts carefully today!”
The National Lottery has confirmed that a notification and an email have been sent to the online player. The winner is advised to make contact with the National Lottery prize claims team on 1800 666 222 or email claims@lottery.ie to arrange the collection of your prize.
A Galway player also had reason to celebrate after claiming their Lotto Match 5 + Bonus prize worth €17,867 from the 25 March draw. Their winning ticket was purchased from Londis, T1 Cloch Mhíle, Renmore, Galway.
“It was the night of the draw when I scanned my ticket and saw the message saying, ‘You’ve won big!’ I had to call a family member to go through the numbers with me because I just never expected it. Looking back, I was surprisingly calm in the moment, but now that I’m here in the Winner’s Room, it is all starting to feel real. I’ll definitely have to book a holiday to celebrate!”
