Rory O’Connor adds energy and entertainment to corporate day

Corporate Day

After a week of persistent heavy showers, the Friday afternoon brought a welcome change as sunshine and a light breeze settled over Mullingar Golf Club. The improved conditions arrived just in time for the club’s annual fundraising event, held in partnership with WTECH Fire Group on Friday 12th June.

The fundraiser supports a wide range of development initiatives, including junior golf, equality and inclusion programmes, disability access, and broader community outreach.

With recent upgrades to the course, enhanced facilities, and the addition of a new outdoor area, the club continues to strengthen its commitment to serving local groups and fostering community links.

Social media influencer Rory O’Connor of Rory’s Stories was a special guest on the day, serving as both guest speaker and auctioneer, adding great energy and entertainment to the event.

A sincere thank-you is extended to WTECH Fire Group for their sponsorship and continued support of the club.

The event was well attended and enjoyed in bright spirits, helped by the favourable weather. Hamills Recovery, comprising Rosemary Whelehan (11), Paula Davitt (16), Frank Cotter (18) and Tony Cotter (57), took first place with an impressive 102 points. In second were HLC Construction, represented by Scott Hogan (6), Adam Hogan (13), Peter Keegan (8) and Gary O'Leary (18), who finished on 101 points.

Third place went to Egan Auctioneers, with Aiden Egan (14), John “Thunder” Kane (14), Paddy Dunne (6) and John Swarbrigg (2) returning 99 points. Fourth place was secured by Medtronic, represented by Jim Thornton (11), Barry McCarthy (19), Helen Thornton (36) and Mark Thornton (18), who posted 96 points.

Prizes on the day also included Longest Drive, won by Paula Davitt in the ladies’ category and Darragh Hughes in the men’s. Nearest the Pin was claimed by Ciara Devine for the ladies and Kieran Smith for the men. Declan Connolly won the Beat the Pro challenge on the 15th hole.

Congratulations to all the winners and to everyone who took part.

Brackens Family Fourball

Sunday, June 14th delivered a cracking day for the annual Open Family Fourball at Mullingar Golf Club, kindly sponsored by Bracken’s Bar in Kinnegad. With bragging rights very much up for grabs, Simon & Graham Carpenter (New Forest) stormed to the perpetual trophy with 43 points, while Eoin & Finbarr Stuart (43 points) and Tony & Sherrie Buckley (43 points) were right on their heels — serving up flair, fun and just enough competitive spark to keep the drama alive to the very last putt.

Junior Golf

The Junior Programme kicks off on Tuesday, June 16, offering young golfers a structured and enjoyable introduction to the game. Coaching sessions will focus on developing core skills, building confidence and encouraging juniors to progress at their own pace. With strong interest already shown, the club looks forward to welcoming both returning players and newcomers as another busy and energetic season gets under way.

Website Update

We are in the process of updating the club website to include more golf related information. The first change has been the addition of a handicap calculator to the front page of the website. That should accurately determine your playing handicap for all the various competitions played at Mullingar. The defaults in the application are all set to those which we mostly use at the club.

Please let Tony Hepburn know if you find any issues. Upcoming changes include sections on the Tudenham Cup, Inter-Club, Addition of Competition Rules and Deadlines, Course Information to include all Course Handicap/Slope/Rating for the various tee-boxes and 9/18 hole formats.

A heartbreaking result for the Flogas Irish Mixed Foursomes, who were edged out by Longford in an away playoff. Every player and manager gave absolutely everything, and the club is immensely proud of the heart and determination shown out on the course.
