Running fun in the sun for Lough Derravaragh races

Almost 150 finishers were recorded in the Derravaragh 5 and 10 Mile 2026 on Sunday week last, June 21.

The popular annual event is a fundraiser in support of Ballinafid-Multyfarnham Community Services, a charity who have been caring for the elderly and isolated in the community since they were set up in 1974.

There is always a great atmosphere on the shores of Lake Derravaragh for the big day in June, and for the competitors, there is a choice of the five-mile route and the 10-mile route; there is also a fun race for children.

Included in the entry fee are chip timing and T-shirts for participants; this year’s features the swans of Lough Derravaragh, a tribute to the legend of the Children of Lir, who spent 300 years on the local waters.

All are welcome to take part, from serious runners to joggers, walkers, strollers, and four-legged friend (on leads, of course).

Race times are available on MyRunResults.com. The top five in the 10-mile are: Mark Fleming, Andy Nevin, Dean Coyne, Adrian Crombie and Ross Digan. The top five female finishers are: Charlotte Kearney, Josephine Killeen, Deirdre Owens, Kate Weir and Michelle Robinson.

In the five-mile, the top five are: Istan Szogi, Paul O’Reilly, Michelle McGee, Shaney McPhillips and Sharon O’Dowd. The first five female finishers are: Michelle McGee, Sharon O’Dowd, Louise Callaghan, Caroline Casey and Linda Lewis.
