Minister commends council on new housing delivery
John Cummins, TD, Minister of State at the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage commended Westmeath County Council for continued commitments in delivering new homes on a recent visit.
The minister was in Mullingar on Friday June 26.
Cllr Aoife Davitt, then cathaoirleach of Westmeath County Council, welcomed the minister to County Buildings for a meeting with council officials to discuss the progress of housing delivery in the county.
Also in attendance at the meeting were chief executive Barry Kehoe, director of services Jackie Finney, director of services Jean Ryan, director of services Deirdre Reilly and director of finance Michael Hand.
Following the meeting, Minister Cummins visited the site of the newly completed homes at Ennell Court, Mullingar with Ms Finney, and members of the Housing Capital team involved in the project, senior architect Andrew Macken and clerk of works Fergus Shaw.
This latest phase at Ennell Court is a development of 15 one- and two-bed A-rated homes. Construction completed on the final seven units at the end of June, and tenants will receive keys to their new homes in early July.
Ennell Court is one of four locations that are part of a larger multi-site design and build project by Westmeath County Council, which delivered 62 units of social housing in Mullingar and Castlepollard.
The project was delivered by Westmeath County Council in conjunction with external design team McMahon Associates and contractors Coolsivna Construction Ltd. The other developments in this project included the eight units in Water Street, Castlepollard, 22 units in St Brigid’s Green, Mullingar at 17 apartments at Robinstown Row, Mullingar, all completed in recent months.
Minister Cummins said developments like those demonstrate what can be achieved through strong partnership between local builders, contractors, the local authority and government. “I want to commend Westmeath County Council for their continued commitments and collaboration in delivering much-needed homes, helping to meet housing needs and building stronger communities.”
