Cathal Nolan with the smoke from Rochfortbridge fire in the background

A bogfire burns outside of Rochfortbridge and temperatures increase

The Midlands and the West of Ireland are expected to be hit with high temperatures today and for the remainder of this week, says Cathal Nolan of the Irish Weather Channel.

While many may have noticed the strong easterly winds that have been blowing through the county over the past few days they are expected to ease as high pressure continues to “dominate,” said Cathal.

Midlands and Western areas will see temperatures of 26 to 27 degrees, and areas primarily in the south-west and mid-west may even reach 30 degrees.

As those easterly winds dissipate, temperatures will get higher.

In the report published to the Ireland’s Weather Channels Facebook smoke can be seen billowing from behind trees in the distance.

“That is a bonfire that has broken out just alongside the N4 just outside Rochfort bridge.

“It’s near the section between Rochfortbridge and Kinnegad.

“It’s an area bog there and has been burning for the last 36-48 hours and this morning it has gained a little bit of intensity.

“Outside during the course of the day it’s likely to lead to poor visibility along that stretch of roadway so be careful.

“And if you’re out and about in areas like boglands, like forests beware there is a significant risk of fires.”

Other than the risk of wildfires there seems Cathal states there is “no sign” of this weather retreating and is expected to continue over the next 10 to 14 days.

Temperatures are expected to vary from the low 20s to the low 30s but according to Cathal, “It's looking sunny, it’s looking dry for the foreseeable future.”
