Plans submitted for redevelopment at Village Inn, Tyrrellspass

The owner of a popular Westmeath hotel and restaurant has made an application to local authority planners for alterations to plans for redevelopment.

The Village Inn in Tyrrellspass is the subject of a planning application by Deel River Catering Ltd.

The firm hopes to make changes to a previous planning permission for the protected Georgian building.

Established in 2017, Deel River Catering Ltd is connected with renowned catering and hospitality business David Smyth Catering.

Mr Smyth is noted for his high quality catering in the midlands and has more than 25 years of formal experience in catering and hospitality.

He has held posts in some of Ireland’s finest hotels including The Glendalough Hotel in County Wicklow and the Mount Juliet Hotel in Kilkenny.

The application for the Tyrrellspass project is for a revisions to a previously granted planning permission for works at The Village Inn, Tyrrellspass, Westmeath.

The proposed development will consist of the refurbishment, extension and reconfiguration of an existing hotel, bar and restaurant building, including all associated internal and external alterations and site development works.

The works include the construction of a new single-storey kitchen extension to the rear of the building; internal alterations to provide a 19 guest bedroom hotel with associated en-suite facilities together with ancillary staff accommodation at basement level.

Further plans are for the provision of two wheelchair accessible bedrooms at ground floor level, alterations to reception area including a new lobby and relocation of a universal access WC, and the provision of a new internal escape staircase and new external escape door.

The plans are to use the second floor as attic storage, with the omission of a previously permitted lift and all the associated site development works.

The application was received on June 25, and the planning office at Westmeath County Council have indicated that a decision could be reached by August 19 next.
