Foley shows fine form in latest trial
Cormac Foley was the winner of the third WCD trial this season, overcoming Ben Corcoran 3-0 in the final which was held in Dan's Tavern, Athlone a couple of weeks ago. Cormac showed a fine standard on the night as in his group all winning legs were under the 21 dart mark where players look to aim for at Inter-County level and continued on into the knockout stages.
In total, 43 players entered on the night, continuing on from strong attendance at the first two trials, while the standard on the night continued to rise among the players as the short format ‘Best of 3’ tests everyone from the first throw! A number of well known players such as Trial 2 Winner Anthony Blacoe, Killian Kelly and Damien Kelly did not make it through to the knockout phase.
Alan McManus, Paul Radford and Andy Kennedy continued their good start to the new ranking season making the Last 16, while Mark Corrigan, Jason Waters and Nick Sheldrick were impressive all night standard-wise reaching the quarters. Ray Enright and Chris Connor will be annoyed with themselves for not taking advantage of their good run, losing in the semis but with 8 ranking points banked will be happy with their night's work all the same.
