Step into Goldsmith Country with Heritage Week tour
The Oliver Goldsmith Committee with the support of National Heritage week will conduct a guided tour around the Oliver Goldsmith sites this Friday, August 21 (6-8pm).
The tour will visit the sights and places associated with the great 18th century poet, dramatist and novelist.
Those interesed can join the tour at the Three Jolly Pigeons (N37 R8F2) at 6pm on Friday. The tour will then proceed to the Goldsmith Monument at Ballymahon Community Library at 6.15.
Participants can also start and finish the tour at Ballymahon Library.
The tour will include visits to Forgney Church, the Schoolhouse and the busy Mill sites, Lissoy Parsonage, Kilkenny West Church, The Hawthorn Bush and the site of the Ale House, finishing at the Three Jolly Pigeons or the Goldsmith Monument at Ballymahon Library.
Following the conclusion of the tour at 8pm, the committee will present an evening of traditional music, song and readings from Goldsmith works in one of the region’s best known traditional, authentic pubs, The Three Jolly Pigeons.
