Castlepollard school thrilled for student who received 613 points

With a results sheet that revealed a Leaving Cert result of 613 points, Castlepollard Community College student Virginia Carr has her hopes set on a future in medicine.

In a year of great results, Virginia was top performer among the students who sat the exam at the north Westmeath school this year.

Thrilled at the results all round, school staff said their reaction to the outcome of the 2026 Leaving Cert was one of “immense pride and joy”.

“This year’s results are a resounding testament to the hard work, resilience, and academic dedication of our students, as well as the unwavering support of their families and our teaching and SNA staff, LWETB and our board of management,” school principal James McGrath stated.

Commenting on what he described as the “several exceptional individual and collective achievements from this year’s cohort”, he said Ms Carr’s result was an elite achievement that reflected years of continuous dedication.

He extended congratulations to the top male performer, Charlie Flynn, achievements and Jack McCormack, who attained best Leaving Certificate Applied results.

“In fact, 77% of the LCA class achieved a Distinction or Merit,” he stated.

Mr McGrath said the class of 2026 had achieved a fantastic average of CAO points, ensuring that the vast majority were excellently positioned to progress into their chosen fields of higher education, technical apprenticeships, and further training.

“Whether our students have achieved their highest personal goals or pushed through difficult academic challenges to secure their passes, we celebrate every single one of them,” Mr McGrath said, before going on to wish each one the absolute best as they step into the next exciting chapter of their journeys.
