MCS: bringing people together through food

At the heart of Westmeath, Multyfarnham Cookery School brings people together through food, learning and shared experiences.

Food occupies a unique place in the world. It is many things; not only is it necessary to sustain life, but it's also an expression of love. It can be functional, or it can be art.

Multyfarnham Cookery School knows all about the many facets of food and offers a variety of cooking classes for individuals and groups that can be tailored to meet their needs.

The school delivers well-structured and engaging sessions with knowledgeable and passionate instructors. Fresh ingredients, attention to detail, and clear instructions help participants gain confidence in cooking techniques suitable for home preparation.

Multyfarnham Cookery School is a four-time winner of the Food Awards Ireland Cookery School of the Year, most recently in 2025. Chosen by public vote, the award reflects the strong support MCS has built among its customers and the wider community.

Behind the school are professional chefs Kamalika and Dayantha, who came to Ireland in 2002 to work in the hospitality industry. Over the years, they worked in a number of high-standard hotels and restaurants, gaining experience across different areas of food and hospitality.

They later ran their own bakery and coffee shop, where everything was made in-house, from fresh breads and Italian, French and international pastries and cakes to a range of hot food.

It was their customers who helped point them towards their next chapter. As people began asking them to share their knowledge and teach them how to cook, they saw an opportunity to do something they had always wanted to do; pass on their experience to others.

That led to the creation of Multyfarnham Cookery School in the grounds of Multyfarnham Friary, in the former agricultural school. The setting has a long connection with learning and practical education, and MCS has grown into a place where people come together to learn, cook and enjoy food. Today, MCS welcomes adults, children, teenagers, private groups and corporate teams from across Ireland.
