Midlands Adventurers Guild brings Samhain to life through tabletop gaming
A Midlands tabletop gaming group is joining forces with tourism organisations and local community groups to celebrate Samhain and promote the midlands region as the “Home of Halloween”.
The Midlands Adventurers Guild, a community-based tabletop gaming group, brings together players from Longford, Westmeath, Leitrim, Roscommon and Cavan through roleplaying games, board games and social events.
Originally founded as Longford D&D in 2024 by seven people, the group has grown into a community of more than 100 members. It hosts regular Dungeons & Dragons sessions, open nights, themed socials and family-friendly activities.
Working with Visit Longford, Visit Westmeath and Fáilte Ireland, the Guild is hosting four special Samhain events between October and early November.
Guild PRO Daniel Considine said tabletop roleplaying and Irish storytelling were a natural fit.
“Tabletop roleplaying games are about telling stories and making connections. With Irish culture so strongly linked to the art of storytelling, it’s only natural that the myths and legends of Samhain would work brilliantly in a setting like Dungeons and Dragons,” he said.
The programme opens on October 3 with Dice in the Dark at the Cornerhouse Café in Drumlish, featuring Halloween-themed games and competitions.
Children aged six to 12 can take part in Harvest Heroes, a D&D adventure at Longford Library on October 24, while teenagers aged 13 to 17 can join Serpents of Samhain at The Attic House in Longford on October 27.
The programme concludes in Westmeath on November 1 with From First Harvest to Final Feast, an immersive roleplaying experience at Dún na Sí Amenity and Heritage Park in Moate.
Mr Considine said local businesses and organisations had been instrumental in making the events possible.
The Guild is inviting people of all ages and experience levels to take part, with registration required for all four events. Further information is available through the Samhain Heartlands programme.
