Glynn requests works at Ballinea, Great Down and Slanestown

A new footpath at Ballinea may be considered for next year’s works programme, following a request from Cllr Ken Glynn (right) at the September meeting of the Mullingar Kinnegad Municipal District.

Cllr Glynn asked the district to consider providing a footpath from the HSE house to Ballinea Bridge in the interest of public safety. He pointed out that there is a wide grass margin along the route and that an old path had previously existed there.

The District Office said the proposed footpath could be considered as part of the 2027 works estimates.

Cllr Glynn also called for the L5802 at Slanestown to be prioritised for resurfacing, saying the road had fallen into poor repair over a number of years.

The District Office said routine maintenance would be carried out as part of normal road maintenance, while the L5802 at Slanestown could be considered for restoration under the 2027 works estimates.

Measures to encourage motorists to reduce their speed along the L5720 at Great Down are to be introduced.

Cllr Glynn had asked the district to consider measures to reduce speed along the road in the interest of public safety.

The District Office confirmed that ‘Slow’ road markings will be installed along sections of the road to enhance driver awareness and safety.
