Road safety measures in Raharney and Killucan to be considered in 2027

Low-cost road safety measures are to be considered for three locations in Raharney and Killucan as part of Westmeath County Council’s 2027 works programme.

The measures were raised by Cllr Niall Gaffney (right) at the September meeting of the Mullingar Kinnegad Municipal District. He asked the council to examine measures to improve road safety on the Killucan Road in Raharney, particularly on the approach to the village.

The District Office said it would consider low-cost safety measures along the R156 west of Raharney as part of the 2027 works programme.

Cllr Gaffney also asked the council to examine road sightlines and low-cost safety measures along the R395 at a particular location. The District Office said a low-cost safety measure would be considered as part of the 2027 works programme.

In a third request, Cllr Gaffney asked for ramps and ‘slow down’ signs to be installed in Ivy Court, Killucan, in the interest of safety. The District Office said it would examine the area to determine what traffic calming works are required. Any works identified can then be considered as part of the 2027 works estimates.

At the same meeting, Cllr Gaffney asked that the district carry out resurfacing works on the remainder of L-55361-0. To that, the response was that the District Office has advised that they will conduct normal road maintenance on this road. “Resurfacing can be considered as part of the 2027 works estimates,” it concluded.
