Crookedwood GAA celebrated a remarkable milestone on Sunday September 13, as players, families and supporters gathered to mark 120 years of hurling in the club.
The anniversary event provided an opportunity to honour the past while looking firmly to the future, with young players and families at the centre of the celebrations.
“Today is about celebrating the past, the present and the future,” said organiser Majella Boyhan.
Music added to the occasion, with performances from Clann Lir CCÉ and the Dunleavy sisters at the GAA grounds. A highlight of the afternoon was the recognition of two historic Junior Hurling Championship-winning teams from 1956 and 1986. The 1956 side captured Crookedwood’s first Junior title, while the 1986 team ended a 30-year wait for championship success.
Members of both teams received commemorative mugs, photographs and engraved crystal presentations in recognition of their achievements.
Westmeath GAA chairman, Paddy Wallace was present and the club also welcomed 2026 Rose of Tralee, Caoilfhinn Ní Choiligh, who met members of the public and was presented with a specially designed hurl and artwork from Devine Art Studios.
A raffle featuring 50 prizes formed part of the celebrations.
