WHAT HAPPENS WHEN A LOCAL BUSINESS MAKES IT BIG

From the heart of counties Westmeath and Galway to the health of thousands across the world, Revive Active’s growth reflects how international success can support local communities.

A Galway-based health supplements business that is manufactured on the outskirts of Mullingar, Co Westmeath, is boosting the health of people across the globe. For Revive Active, a premium nutritional supplement company and brainchild of the late Sligo entrepreneur Dáithí O'Connor, international growth has transformed the scale of the company.

Today, it exports much of its product to growing markets in the UK, Spain, Portugal, UAE and Nigeria. But despite its expanding global customer base, the business remains firmly rooted in the towns it calls home.

“We've built a global business”, says Colm Horton, Operations Director at Revive Active, “but the places and people who supported us are still at the centre of everything we do.”

The business started out under the wing of Enterprise Ireland as a High Performance Start-up (HPSU) and built its foreign customer base through supports such as the Digital Marketing Capability Grant. While they’ve always been headquartered in Galway, as Brexit approached, Revive Active took the decision to relocate its manufacturing base from Wales to a new 21,000 sq ft facility in Mullingar, which now employs around 40 full-time staff.

Revive Active’s story reflects a broader trend in Irish enterprise, where indigenous businesses across the country are pursuing growth opportunities overseas while looking to invest in the communities they call home.

Last year, Enterprise Ireland-supported companies employed over 232,000 people and generated over €38bn in export sales. While these figures demonstrate the scale of their success, the impact is often most visible at a local level.

In towns like Mullingar and Galway, a successful business like Revive Active contributes much more than employment numbers. Many employees are deeply connected to the area through sporting and community organisations. The company itself partners with and supports many local charity sporting events and fundraises directly for charities themselves.

These connections are part of what makes home-grown business different. Their success often creates a ripple effect locally, supporting families, strengthening local economies and helping communities thrive.

Revive Active is a prime example of a business that fully understands that supporting a community isn’t just about creating jobs, but proudly helping people build their lives and careers close to home.

That pride is a central part of what drives both business and community forward. Businesses benefit from a skilled workforce, local knowledge and strong community ties. Communities benefit from stable employment, career opportunities and investment that helps keep economic activity within the region.

And for Colm, maintaining that connection has always been important. "It’s the people around you that often make the biggest difference," he says. "We’re proud to be in a position to make a difference for them too."

And this trend is increasingly evident across Ireland. In 2025, 69% of jobs created in Enterprise Ireland-supported companies were outside Dublin. Those jobs brought in over €13.5 billion in wages, wages that are spent across the local community.

From manufacturing and engineering to fintech and life sciences, Irish companies are winning business around the world while remaining deeply rooted in their communities.
