Darragh Mullen (Sligo and Westmeath) and Oran England (Cavan) celebrate their British Rally Championship class win in Wales last month.

England and Mullen ready for Harvest Rally and multiple championship showdowns

Lough Owel Motors backed Peugeot rally crew Oran England and Darragh Mullen return to action on Saturday for the Donegal Harvest Stages Rally, aiming to maintain their lead in both the Stellantis Motorsport Rally Cup and the National Rally Championship Class 2 standings.

The Peugeot Ireland-backed crew experienced the full spectrum of rallying emotions during their debut at British and European Championship level at Rali Ceredigion in Wales last month. After securing a class victory across the opening two days in their Tom Gahan Motorsport-prepared Peugeot 208 Rally4, slippery tarmac conditions on Sunday morning resulted in an off-road excursion and impact with a tree while leading.

The incident forced England to miss the subsequent Wexford double-header due to minor injuries and repair delays, threatening his dual title campaigns.

A rapid turnaround has ensured the season remains firmly on track as Oran prepares to make his debut on the Donegal stages.

“It was a massive setback in Wales after such a high, but you have to pick yourself up and move forward,” he said.

“This is my first time taking on the Donegal stages, and it is one of the biggest national rallies of the year.

“I am focused on bouncing back, getting straight back to work, and putting in a strong performance.”

England and his Motorsport Ireland Rally Academy co-driver Darragh Mullen currently lead the Stellantis Motorsport Rally Cup on 75 points, two points ahead of chief rival Danny Brady – who is also mounting a rapid repair effort following a similar incident in Wexford.

In the National Rally Championship Class 2 standings, England and Mullen lead on 46 points.

The Donegal event is also the final round of the Sligo Pallets Border Rally Championship, and England and Mullen have a chance too to move into an overall championship position.

The Donegal Harvest Stages Rally, based at Burt, features 104 competitive kilometres over nine stages in the Burt, Rooskey, and Dooish areas.
